Summer School 2025:

 
The second edition of the EUCA Model EU Summer Workshop was held between May 19, 2025, and May 26, 2025. It involved a number of interviews and orientation sessions held online, and 2 days of in-person workshops at the KIMEP University campus in Almaty on May 25 - 26. 

The event focused on the topic “Strengthening People-to-People Ties: EU Visa Facilitation for Citizens of Kazakhstan,” which was especially relevant and interesting to the student participants.

The event attracted 107 applications from KIMEP students, other Almaty universities, and high school seniors. After a competitive selection process by the event coordinators and student organizing team, 28 participants were selected to represent 27 EU member states and Kazakhstan (as an Observer). Final participants came from KIMEP, Al-Farabi KazNU, AlmaU, UIB, KAU, and KazNPU, ensuring a diverse and inclusive simulation environment.

The second day was opened by Dr. Damian A. Riviez, Vice President of Academic Affairs at KIMEP University, and Ms. Aleška Simkić, the EU Ambassador to Kazakhstan. They welcomed participants and encouraged them to engage in productive and insightful debate. Ms. Simkić stayed for the entire event, sharing real EU policy cases and offering an inspiring experience.

Summer School 2026:

 
The third edition of the EUCA Model EU Workshop began with an online orientation session on March 24, 2026, followed by two days of in-person activities at the KIMEP University campus in Almaty on April 3–4. The orientation introduced participants to the concept and procedures of Model EU, diplomatic protocol, and the rules of the simulation, while the in-person sessions included final preparations, negotiations, debates, proposal redrafting, and voting.

The 2026 simulation focused on the topic “Social Media Use Ban for Children,” reflecting an important and highly topical issue on the European policy agenda. Participants assumed the roles of EU Member State delegates and members of the European Commission, working to represent different national positions, form coalitions, negotiate amendments, and seek agreement within the Council of the European Union.

The event attracted more than 150 applications from KIMEP students, students from other universities in Almaty, and high school seniors. Following a competitive selection process conducted by the student organizing team, 30 participants were selected. While most participants were from KIMEP University, the simulation also included students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, SDU University, Ablai Khan University, and several Almaty high schools.

Model EU 2026 was officially opened by Dr. Damian A. Riviez, Vice President of Academic Affairs at KIMEP University; H.E. Aleška Simkić, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Kazakhstan; and Dr. Jason Gainous, Dean of the College of Social Sciences. Ambassador Simkić also offered participants insights into the functioning of the EU’s legislative institutions, including coalition-building, political disagreement, and consensus formation.
